CONFESSION_1If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)

My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. (1 John 2:1-2)

We are weak. We have weaknesses. We will fall. No matter how strong we are, we will still fall.

“Strong People” are lonely people for they do not allow others to come in and carry their burdens with them. They don’t have the courage and humility to be vulnerable to seek help – help from God our compassionate Father and help from their loving brothers. Like Adam and Eve, when they sinned, they hide for the fear of being discovered. Adam said, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.” (Gen 3:10) I don’t want you to see me in my shame. Yet God knew of their weaknesses. He knew of their sins. He did not stay away. He reached out His loving hands to guide them, teach them, discipline them, and clothed them in compassion and kindness.

Jesus does not want us to sin because He knows sins corrupts, harms, and hurts. Yet, He knows that our flesh is weak. And when we fall, He will be there to pick us up. Be vulnerable, confess your sins, and cry out to Him for help, and like lightning, in a flash, He will be there to forgive, stand by your side, and save.

Leave your shame with Him. Lighten your burden. It is already left on the cross. Why clamber to bring it down again? Repent, confess your sins, and walk in the freedom that He has given you.

Shame is an unspoken epidemic, the secret behind many forms of broken behavior. Brené Brown, whose earlier talk on vulnerability became a viral hit, explores what can happen when people confront their shame head-on. Her own humor, humanity and vulnerability shine through every word.
